2006 FRANK W. BERKMAN ANNUAL TOURISM ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS DINNER
Date: June 08, 2006 - June 08, 2006
Location: Rainbow Room
In recognition of the magnitude and excellence within our City’s tourism and hospitality elite, the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter has created two new award categories celebrating the industry’s best. Inspired by Frank W. Berkman, these awards (formally named Frank W. Berkman Awards) are designed for those professionals who have consistently demonstrated excellence in their chosen areas.
Frank W. Berkman was a former Executive VP and COO of HSMAI, a Certified Hospitality Marketing Executive (CHME), and an inspiring individual whose dedication and intellect led HSMAI to become the highly influential, international organization it is today. Frank started as an elevator operator and ultimately became General Manager of the Henry Hudson Hotel (now Hudson). He opened the City Squire (now the Sheraton Manhattan) for Loews Hotels as its first GM. By 1965 Frank joined HSMA launching it to international status. His son-in-law, Frank Stapleton recalls, “Frank was a ‘never-say-never’ type of guy who always thought outside the box.” Each year’s nominees must exemplify a love of the tourism and hospitality industry; exhibit extraordinary leadership and professionalism; and demonstrate Berkman’s propensity to continually think outside the box.
This is your opportunity to recognize a professional who has consistently demonstrated excellence, making a positive contribution in one of the following award categories:
- Sales and Marketing Excellence Award
- Hotel General Manager of the Year Award
- Professional of the Year Award
- Operations Excellence Award
- Hospitality Student of the Year Award
